News Anchors Devin Scillian and Kimberly Gill Praise Eminem’s Genius in the Studio
In a surprise appearance, Detroit news anchors Devin Scillian and Kimberly Gill are featured on Eminem’s new album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grace). The two journalists lend their voices to the “Breaking News” skit, reporting on the rapper’s supposed attempts to “cancel himself.”
Scillian and Gill, who work for WDIV, the Detroit NBC affiliate, have previously collaborated with Eminem on two occasions. However, they say this experience was different, with more excitement surrounding their appearance on the album.
The pair worked with Eminem in his studio over several sessions, finding him to be “very collaborative” and “hands-on.” They praise his genius in the studio, saying he knows what he wants but is also open to ideas from others.
Scillian and Gill only learned they would be included on the album a couple of days before its release. They were thrilled to discover they had “made the cut” and were featured on the album.
Their experience working with Eminem was positive, with Scillian saying, “He’s very collaborative… He knows what he’s looking for, but he’s also having you do a couple of different things.”
Gill adds, “He’s very interested in knowing how we would do it as real journalists… It was a really cool thing; here we have Marshall Mathers asking us for advice on how to say something.”
The pair are excited about their appearance on the album, with Scillian joking, “I’m going to put it on a T-shirt… I’m on Eminem’s new album!”
