Jailed Kwaito Star Brickz and Son Google Da DJ in Showbiz vs. Studies Debate
Kwaito star Brickz, currently serving a 15-year prison sentence for a 2013 conviction of raping a minor relative, finds himself in a familial dispute with his son, aspiring DJ Gugulethu Cleopas Ndlovu, known professionally as Google Da DJ.
Despite Brickz’s concerns that a career in showbiz might derail his son’s academic pursuits, Google Da DJ has been making waves in the music scene. Sources close to Brickz reveal that while he believes the spotlight could be overwhelming, his son’s recent successes, including notable bookings and competition wins on Jozi FM, demonstrate his talent and growing popularity.
“This disagreement has sparked tension within the family, with some members supporting Google Da DJ’s musical ambitions over academic focus, citing his promising career trajectory,” shared a family insider.
Addressing the discord, Google Da DJ’s grandmother, Adelaide Mabaso, acknowledged the challenges faced by her grandson but emphasized the value of Brickz’s industry wisdom. “While there’s disagreement about prioritizing DJing over studies, his father’s experience in showbiz offers invaluable guidance,” she remarked, advocating for a balanced approach that values education alongside musical passion.
Despite differences, Mabaso suggested a compromise: “He can pursue DJing after completing his studies; it’s not about abandoning talent but finding the right timing.”
