The anticipation surrounding Tyla’s much-awaited self-titled debut album reached its peak upon its release. However, disappointment surfaced among some local fans regarding the album’s introductory track featuring Kelvin Momo.
With the unveiling of the tracklist days prior to the album’s launch, excitement soared, especially with the mention of acclaimed international artists such as Tems, Gunna, Skillibeng, Becky G, and Travis Scott, who was already set to feature on the remix of “Water”.
Among the roster, Kelvin Momo’s name garnered attention from South African music enthusiasts. Yet, upon the album’s debut, listeners were met with a mere 41-second snippet of Kelvin’s jam session with Tyla’s vocals in the background.
In typical South African social media fashion, critiques and reactions flooded various platforms. Some speculated that perhaps a full Kelvin Momo track might be reserved for a deluxe edition, while others expressed their disappointment at the teaser’s brevity.
One user lamented, “I thought Tyla and Kelvin Momo would deliver a standout track; this fell short of expectations.” Another echoed the sentiment, expressing a longing for “a proper banger” from the duo.
Despite the mixed reactions, many acknowledged the album’s overall quality while hoping for a more substantial collaboration from Tyla and Kelvin Momo in the future.
