Priddy Ugly has responded to Stogie T’s comments about the lyricism of top US rappers, including Kendrick Lamar, J Cole, and Drake. Stogie T had stated that these artists are not special lyricists, comparing them to Lupe Fiasco, Aesop Rock, Jay-Z, and Nas, who he considers exceptional. In an interview on What A Life Podcast with Slikour, Stogie T said, “Drake, Kendrick, and Cole aren’t special lyricists… They’re not Lupe, Aesop Rock is special, Jay-Z is special, Nas is special. Kendrick is alright, Cole is alright. Kendrick is not better than me.”
Priddy Ugly took to social media platform X to share his thoughts, clarifying that Stogie T was referring to Aesop Rock, not ASAP Rocky. He wrote, “Someone asked me how I felt about Stogie feeling like ASAP ROCKY was a more special lyricist than Dot & Cole. What I feel about how another man feels has nothing to do with me, but for clarity, he was referring to AESOP ROCK, not Flacko….”
While Priddy Ugly didn’t directly address Stogie T’s opinions, he implied that everyone is entitled to their own feelings and opinions. The debate has sparked a larger conversation about lyricism in hip-hop, with a poll conducted by SA Hip Hop Mag showing that 50,000 fans believe Stogie T is a superior lyricist compared to the top three US rappers. The poll result indicates that Stogie T’s remarks have resonated with a significant portion of the South African hip-hop community, who share his views on lyricism and consider him a superior lyricist.
