Title: Cellphone Records Tie Seven Suspects to AKA and Tibz Murders, Court Hears
Cellphone records from the seven accused individuals implicated in the murders of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane have placed them at key locations on the day of the tragic incident. AKA and Tibz were fatally shot outside Wish restaurant on Florida Road in February 2023.
During a recent hearing at the Durban Magistrates Court, five of the seven suspects faced opposition to their bail release from the State. Investigating officer Kumaran Pillay presented evidence linking the accused to the murders through cellphone records and CCTV footage.
According to Pillay’s affidavit, State prosecutor advocate Elvis Gcweka highlighted that four of the five suspects allegedly retrieved firearms and a getaway vehicle used in the crime. Gcweka stated, “The evidence establishes that applicants one, two, four, and five were part of the group involved in collecting the Mercedes Benz and firearms used in the killing.”
Pillay further alleges that the suspects assembled at a rendezvous point near Jacobs on the M4 highway to obtain the vehicle and weapons. Two months following the murders, the vehicle was recovered in Cato Ridge, identified by a damaged left headlight as the getaway vehicle used in the commission of the crime.
As legal proceedings continue, the revelations from the investigating officer underscore the importance of evidence in pursuing justice for AKA, Tibz, and their families.
